Since 1917, SUFE has devoted to international exchange and cooperation. Till April, 2007, SUFE has signed altogether 103 agreements of cooperation with foreign universities, such as USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, France, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Japan, Vietnam, etc, and some institutions from Hong Kong, Macao and Chinese Taiwan. Those agreements covered the areas as academic research, joint programs, faculty and students exchange, etc,. The solid foundation has been laid for the development of research, teaching, and cultivation of talents.
Academic Research
SUFE carried out wide-ranging academic exchange by hosting many conferences, seminars and academic presentations. In recent years, SUFE hosted or co-hosted more than 40 high-level international conferences. The themes covered with the areas of accounting, economics, finance, law, management and philosophy. Scholars from both home and abroad conducted in-depth discussions on frontier academic issues.
Meanwhile, SUFE invests more funds to encourage faculty and students to go abroad to participate in international academic programs. For the past few years, more than 115 teachers went to USA, UK, Japan, Korean, Australia and Chinese Taiwan to take part in academic conferences, and exchanged with renowned foreign scholars. Hundreds of famous foreign experts visited SUFE and made presentations, for instance, Professor Robert F. Fogel and Professor Clive Granger of Nobel Prize Laureate in Economics. Their lectures brought along the world¡¯s frontier knowledge and advanced technology, injected fresh air and vigor into academic development, and enlivened the atmosphere of academic research. From 2005 to 2006, US Fulbright Scholars, Prof. Gu Yanxiang and Prof. Larry Shotwell did research and delivered lectures here. SUFE also invited a host of Fulbright Scholars to participate in the ¡°SUFE US Fulbright Lecturer Series¡±, which has witnessed 10 successful lectures till April, 2007.
Joint Programs
Different kinds of joint programs have been carried out since 1996. They are joint MBA, EMBA, joint undergraduate program and joint training program, besides that there is an independent entity named Shanghai International Banking and Finance Institute.
In order to introduce excellent teaching resources from our partner universities, SUFE invited more than 130 long-term foreign teachers, scholars and recruited lots of brilliant faculty who obtained their Ph.D. from prestigious overseas universities, such as Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Cornell, the University of Toronto. They play an active role in the development of teaching and research at SUFE.
Students Exchange
SUFE boasts diverse student programs, in particular, cultural exchange and international students. We are now enrolling a wealth of international students from five continents as Asia, Europe, Africa, America and Australia with 64 countries. Teaching Chinese as a foreign language at SUFE enjoys a good word of mouth in Shanghai and China at large. SUFE also makes great efforts and allocated special funds to support students going abroad for academic exchange programs. Every year, more than 100 students will be sent to USA, France, Canada, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Japan and Hong Kong as exchange students.
Looking forward into the future, SUFE is targeted at a multiple-disciplinary and research-oriented university with distinctive finance and economics features. To achieve this goal, we will work harder to enhance the overall competitiveness and expand international reputation and recognition.
