The School of Information Management and Engineering was formerly the Department of Information Management, which was established in 1982. The current name of the school was adopted in March 2005. It offers three undergraduate degree programs, including Information Management and Information Systems, E-Business, and Computer Science and Technology. The school also has two master's degree programs, E-business and Management Science and Engineering, and two doctorate programs, Enterprise Information Management and Enterprise Management Decision-Making. In collaboration with IBM Corporation, the school has also established an E-business lab. Currently, there are 780 undergraduate students, 86 master's students and 9 doctoral candidates. There are 39 full time faculty members. 28 of them, comprising 72% of the faculty, are professors, associate professors, or have received doctorate degrees.

Development Plans

We are working to obtain authorization from the Ministry of Education to award the PhD degree in the first grade discipline of Management Science and Engineering, and establish a post-doctoral program in this area. We are also working to obtain authorization to award the master¨s degree in the first grade discipline of Computer Science and Technology, which will create a basis for eventually offering a PhD degree in the same field. We also want to be authorized to confer the master's degree in the three second grade disciplines of Computer Software and Theory, Computer Systems Architecture and Computer Application Technologies; and also be authorized to confer Master of Engineering degrees. We aim to build 2 to 3 related undergraduate programs in the aforementioned disciplines. We will make an effort to ensure at least one of our new second grade disciplines becomes a Shanghai municipal key discipline. We are striving to develop SIME into a leading academic institution in China in the field of information management and engineering, with an appreciable degree of international influence.
