The School of International Business Administration (SIBA) was founded in 1998, and was established on the basis of the amalgamation of the three former individual departments and specialty, namely department of Industrial Economics, department of Trade Economics, and International trade specialty of department of World Economy. The department of Industrial Economics can trace back to July, 1921 which was then the department of Business Administration at Shanghai Business University.

The spirits of the SIBA is that “Seeking for truth with the spirit of freedom, Seeking for knowledge with the spirit of exploration, and Seeking for advancement with the spirit of innovation”. Grasping the strategic developing chance of the Reform and Open in China, in the aspects of talent training, the SIBA strives to inspire and enable the students to be senior management personnel with the spirits of seeking truth and pragmatism, innovation and dedication, solid theory foundation, practical application ability, and international perspective. In the future, guided by applied theoretical research, the school aims to turn SIBA into one of the most respectable research business school with the remarkable international competitiveness.

At present, the School of International Business Administration at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SHUFE) has 8 departments with 6 doctoral programs and 6 master programs in the following areas: Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Industrial Economics, International Trade, Marketing, Tourism Management, World Economy and Operations Management. Among them, the departments of Industrial Economics, Business Administration and International Trade are evaluated as the Key Subject in Shanghai. Additionally, the school has established three school-level research centers including Research Center for Marketing, the Institute for World Expo Economy and Top 500 Enterprises Research Center.

The School has 75 faculty members; among them are 19 professors, 40 associate professors, and 16 lecturers (or assistant professors), including 41 PH.D (66%) and 19 Masters. Since 2006, the School has attracted a large number of short-term and regular visiting professors. Particularly, the school retains Guofu Tan as the dean of SIBA. With the help of these professors and the effort of our faculty members and students, the School has recently improved significantly in teaching and research.

In the academic research, practical application and government consulting, the school gets a lot of funding and research achievements. From 2000 to 2007, the school got 13 foundations from NSFC and 12 foundations from National Philosophy and Social Science Foundation of China. The school also got a lot of funding from the companies. There are about 80 projects and over 8 million RMB in each year.

There are more than 1100 undergraduates, about 500 graduate students currently studying and doing research in the School. The employment situation of the graduates of SIBA is very pleasing and the employment rate is around 97% each year. The students are mainly employed by foreign enterprises, top 500 enterprises, large state-owned enterprises, financial institutes, colleges and universities, research institutes, government institutes, etc. The graduates of the school are always well evaluated by the employing units.

Shen Yuelin, Associate Professor of Management, received his Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in 2004 from Boston University. His areas of specialization include supply management, channel management and applied operations research. He has published in Informs Journal on Computing and among others.

He Xiaogang  Professor He Xiaogang received his Ph.D. in 2004 from SUN YAT-SEN UNIVERSITY. His areas of specialization include strategy management, entrepreneurship, and corporate governance. His main publications include Venturing Winner (SUN YAT-SEN UNIVERSIITY Publishing Company, 2005), Entrepreneurial Competence and Enterprise Growth (Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Publishing Company, 2006), and performance management (Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Publishing Company, 2008). Mr. He enjoyed the special subsidy awarded by the Ministry of Education in 2009, one key textbook sponsored by the Ministry of Education in 2008, and one soft science program sponsored by the Shanghai Technology Committee of Science Management (STCSM) in 2005. Dr. He has taken part in other research project including two programs sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), one research program sponsored by the Ministry of Education, etc. He was honored “Science Research Model of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009)”. His research paper, Entrepreneurial Competence and Enterprises’ Growth: An Empirical Study in China, won the Shanghai Municipal Government’s Third Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Philosophy and Social Science. One of his research projects, founder competence and firm growth, was awarded First Prize for Outstanding Achievement by the NSFC.

LIN JUE Professor LIN Jue received her Ph.D. in 1994 from Wuhan University. Her areas of specialization include International Trade Theories and Policies, American Economy, Energy Economics. Since 1987 she has published more than 180 papers and books, such as International Technology Trade (Shanghai University of Finance & Economics Press, Shanghai, 2006), Foreign Economic and Trade Relations – China and Her Main Trade Partners (Shanghai University of Finance & Economics Press, Shanghai, 2006), World Economy Annual Report 2008 (Shanghai University of Finance & Economics Press, Shanghai, 2008), Energy Prices Changes and Economic Security (Shanghai University of Finance & Economics Press, Shanghai, 2009)etc. Some of monographs got prizes, such as A Study of U.S.A. Foreign Trade Policy in the Post-war Period (Yunnan University Press, Kunming, 1995) and Impacts of Debates between U.S. Two Parties on its Foreign Trade Policy & Our Countermeasures (World Economics and Politics, Beijing, No.2, 1997), as well as Some Issues on Rural Industrialization in Large Developing Countries (Quarterly Journal of the Shanghai Academy, Shanghai, No.2, 1993) won the Shanghai Municipal Government’s Prizes for Outstanding Achievement in Philosophy and Social Science and for Deng Xiaoping's Socialism Theory with Chinese Characteristics. She has also got funds and engaged in projects, some of them came from the United States Information Agency, China-EU cooperation in Higher Education Program Fund, Canadian Foreign Affairs and International Trade, China Scholarship Projects of Study Abroad, Humanities and Social Sciences Project of Ministry of Education, Planning Project of Shanghai Philosophy and Social Sciences, Shanghai Automotive Industry Education Fund, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, etc. Some of them won prizes. She was identified as one of the first Cross-Century Disciplines (Academic) Leaders of subordinated institutions of Finance Ministry in 1997. Also, she has been awarded by Shanghai "March 8 Hong Qishou" title (2000) and National Advanced Individual of Returned Overseas Chinese (2009), etc.

Tingfang Tao Professor Tingfang Tao received her master degree in 2000 from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Her areas of specialization include events management and study of theories of events, conferences and conventions industry. Her recent main publications are the translation of Marketing Destinations and Venues for Conferences, Conventions and Business Events (2008.10, Shanghai People’s Press), Management of Event Operation (2008.10, Shanghai People’s Press), and Marketing (2004.1, Shanghai People’s Press). In 2003, Prof. Tao did a research on 2010 World Expo and the Next Round Development of Shanghai Economy for the Shanghai Municipal Government as the C type project. In 2005, her Study on promoting City Image of Shanghai was listed as the key projects of Shanghai Tourism Management Committee. In 2007, her Study of the Trend of Outsourcing in Shanghai Travel Industry has again been listed as the key projects by Shanghai Tourism Management Committee, which also has been praised as the most dedicated project to the development of Shanghai tourism in 2009 by the committee. In 2008, her Study on Strategies for Merging Shanghai Travel Industry and Culture Innovation Industry was again listed as the key projects by the committee.

BAO Xiaohua Professor Xiaohua BAO received her Ph.D. in 2005 from Shanghai University of Finance & Economics. Her areas of specialization include international trade theory and policy. Her main publications include Economic Effects and Policy-Making of Technical Barriers to Trade: from the Perspective of Developing Countries, which won the Second Prize of AnZijie International Trade Research Prize. Her ongoing and completed research projects in a principle investigator capacity include: NSFC project Quantifying Trade and Welfare Effects of TBT and Its Liberalization, SSFC project The Motivations of Antidumping and Industry Safety etc.

Chao Gangling Professor Chao Gangling received his Master in 1989 from Shanghai University of Finance & Economics .His areas of specialization include marketing and commercial economics. His main publications include: Marketing(third edition),(2008 by SUFE Press, Shanghai); The Report of Marketing Development in China(2005 by SUFE Press, Shanghai); China Service Industry(2004 by SUFE Press, Shanghai).

GUO Yudan Professor Guo Yudan received his master degree from SUFE in 1983. He used to be the deputy director of Department of World Economy, vice dean of School of International Business Administration, director of personnel of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Zhejiang College (Independent Institute) and so on. Besides, he is director of China International Economic Relations Association, Chinese Foreign Economics Research Association, Shanghai Association of World Economy and other social academic community. His areas of specialization include International Trade, Western Economics, International Economics

He wrote or edited as chief editor the following monographs: Strategy Research on Internationalization of Chinese Companies (Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Press, June 2010), Anti-Dumping and Industrial Safety in China (Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Press, May 2006),International Trade (Shanghai Excellent Textbook Series) (Shanghai University of Economics Press, 2008), Western Economics (tenth five-year plan materials of Ministry of Finance) (Economic Science Press, 2005) and so on, and published over 80 papers in opening publications. Besides, he presided and completed a key project of Ministry of Finance, "Analysis on China's Technology Import Policy Direction and Its Economic Benefit", a Shanghai Philosophy and Social Sciences key project "Study on Shanghai Stock Market Operation Mechanism and Monitoring System", key subject research project of Shanghai Education Commission "Employment of EDI in Shanghai's Foreign Trade Enterprise Management", a Shanghai decision-making consultation major research project "Study on Problems and Countermeasures of Shanghai Developing Overseas Project Contracting Business", and others. Some of his projects won prizes, such as "International Trade Building" (Collective project) was honored with the second prize of Shanghai Excellent Teaching Achievement; "Study on Problems and Countermeasures of Shanghai Developing Overseas Project Contracting Business" was honored with the third prize of Shanghai research decision-making consultation research; New Textbook of Modern Western Economics won the third prize of Excellent College Textbook in Shanghai;

Besides, he won the first prize of Teaching Award Fund by the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and the title of "Good Teacher in My Mind" elected by students of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics several times.

HE Jianmin Professor He Jianmin received his Ph.D. in 2001 from Fudan University. His areas of specialization include tourism industry and tourism enterprises. His main publications include Modern Tourism Development Operation and Management Shanghai: Xuelin Publishing Houses,1989), Principles and Operations of Modern Hotel Management (Shanghai: Shanghai Foreign Language Publishing Houses, 1994)Modern International Marketing Strategies (Shanghai: Shanghai Foreign Language Publishing Houses, 1994)Theory and Approaches of Making Leading Brand (Shanghai: East China University of Science and Technology Press, 2002). Mr.He has enjoyed the special subsidy awarded by the State Council annually since 1999. His monograph, Modern Tourism Development Operation and Management , won the Shanghai Municipal Government’s Third Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Philosophy and Social Science. His textbook, Principles and Operations of Modern Hotel Management , won the China Education Committee’s Prize for Outstanding Textbook. He also undertook a key research project sponsored by the National Social Science Fund, “Present, Trend and Countermeasures of Foreign Investment Entering China”. He also undertook following key projects, the project “Statistical Theory and Methods of Evaluating Shanghai Tourism Industry’s Contribution to National Economy ” sponsored by the Shanghai Social Science Fund, the project “Study of Financial Crisis and the Objectives and Paths for Transforming China’s Tourism Development Pattern ” sponsored by China National Tourism Administration, the project “Study of Shanghai World Expo’s Multi-effects” sponsored by Shanghai Municipal Government Development Research Center.

LAN Yisheng Professor LAN Yisheng received his Ph.D. in 2001 from Fudan University. His areas of specialization include International trade and Electronic Commerce. His main publications include <China’s New Trade policy as Great Power>(2010)<Green Balanced Trade Strategy and China’s Industrial Security>(2010), <Starting a Business on Internet>(2010)<Electronic Commerce and Economic Revolution>(1998).Prof. Lan has been a visiting scholar to University of Michigan(1986-87), University of Adelaide(1996-97) and Erasmus University of Rotterdam(2005). He is the member of the teaching guiding committee of the Ministry of Education of China for the E-commerce major. He won the Shanghai Municipal Government’s First Prize for Excellent Teaching Achievements in 2005. He undertook and finished the National Social Science Foundation research project entitled “China’s trade policy and strategy adjustments as an emerging power” and some other research projects.

Quan Hua Professor Quan Hua received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing. He studied in USA as a visiting scholar from Aug. 2010 to Feb. 2011. His areas of specialization include ecotourism, tourism planning and tourism attraction. His main publications include Urban water landscape and its treatment, Beijing: Law press of China, 2009, The Principles, Methodology and Illustration of Ecotourism Spots Construction, Beijing: The Commercial Press, 2007, Tourism Resources Management, Beijing: Tourism Education Press of China, The Illustration of Tourism Planning, Beijing: Science and Technology Press of China, 2009. He took part in the “10th-Five-Year Plan” of the Ministry of Science and Technology: A study on the typical examples for the sustainable use of tourist resources. He was in charge of or took part in more than 20 foundation projects. He has published more than 80 journal articles in major journals (e.g. Journal of Geographical Sciences (SCI), Acta Ecologica Sinica).

TIAN ZhongjunProfessor TIAN Zhongjun received his Ph.D. in 2008 from Washington University in St. Louis. His areas of specialization include supply chain management and operations strategy, revenue management and pricing, stochastic processes, real options, and production scheduling. His research has been published in Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Operations Research Letters, Journal of Scheduling, and European Journal of Operational Research.

Tong Chunhua Prof. Tong is currently working as an associate Professor in the School of International Business Administration, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE). He obtained his Ph.D. in Business Administration from Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California (USC), in the year 2007. Prior to his Ph.D. study in US, he had background of Electric Engineering, and been working as a Project Manager in China State Power Grid Co. for four years.

He has taught courses in the fields of Operations Management, Supply Chain Management and International Marketing for undergraduate level in SUFE (China) and USC (US), and seminar on stochastic modeling for graduate students in SUFE. His research areas are Supply Chain Management, International Marketing, and Service Management. His research works have been published in internationally recognized academic journals, including one case study in Harvard Business Review (China).

Wang Yu Professor Wang Yu obtained her doctorate degree in Economics from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Her research areas are Business Strategy & Performance, Enterprises’ Competency and Industries Development Strategies, etc. Prof. Wang mainly teaches Strategic Management and Competitive Strategy. She has published many papers and books, such as Analysis on maturity of strategy for Chinese enterprises, Research on maturity of strategy based on Chinese practice, Research on strategy sharing between enterprises in China, etc.

Wang Xinxin Professor Xinxin Wang received his Ph.D. from Northwest University in 1996. His main research areas include consumer behavior and brand management. his main publications include New Competitive power (Changchun Publishing House, Changchun, 2000), Consulting Report For Chinese Enterprises (Jilin People Publishing House, Changchun, 2000). His research paper, Making Symbols To Meet The Consumers Psychological Demand (China industry and economics,1998),won the Jilin University’s Second Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Philosophy and Social Science.
