Business Chinese Program

1. Introduction

1)         What skills will you acquire from the Business Chinese course?

Our training aims to help you conquer obstacles in listening and speaking Business Chinese by expanding your vocabulary, improving sentence structure, etc. In addition, the courses will introduce you to Chinese business culture and etiquette to strengthen your Chinese communication ability in a business setting.

2)         Who needs to attend the Business Chinese program?

Those who want to improve their communication skills in businesses Chinese; those who would like to work with Chinese business or clients.

3)         Two components of the program:

Oral Business Chinese: Using professional textbooks, which combine Chinese language, job-hunting skills, and professional business attainment, the classes seek to improve individual and professional expertise through case study analysis, classroom activities and after-class practice.

Basic skill of job hunting: Students will prepare to enter the job market by completing the Business Chinese Test (BCT), CV preparation, cover letter writing, and taking an interview.

Chinese Language Program

1. Program

The courses’ objective is to improve Chinese listening and reading skills, as well as the Chinese language fluency of foreign students in speaking and writing. Students will be divided into several classes based on their Chinese Language proficiency, either beginning level, preliminary level, intermediate level or advanced level. Diverse activities will be offered to students besides the classroom teaching.

Foundation Program

 

1. Introduction

 The objective of the foundation program is to cultivate qualified candidates for undergraduate admission to SUFE. After one year of training, if the students meet the required standard for both Chinese proficiency and knowledge of their majors, they may directly enter the sophomore level. All the credits earned in the foundation program may be carried forth into the second year of our undergraduate program should they graduate successfully from the foundation program.

Foreign applicants must be between 18 and 45, at least a high school graduate or above, new HSK level 4 certified, and in good physical health.

Undergraduate Program with a major in

Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language

(Economic and Trade Direction)

 

Introduction

1.      Major Introduction

The major Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (Economic and Trade Direction) was started in 2000. The major’s objective is to emphasize Chinese business knowledge and practical application of the material and skills learned in class. The aim of the major is to prepare foreign students to become professionals with Chinese and English languages proficiency and knowledge of economics and management theory related to the business of trade.

 

2.      Chinese Ability Objective

The major will prepare students to pass the New HSK grade-6 exam, to be able to communicate and translate business Chinese fluently, to read texts and books in economic and trade field, to be able to write business-relevant content reports etc.

 

3.      Business Ability Objective

The major will emphasize basic economics and management theory, Chinese economic development status, economic policy and law; as well as teach basic methods of collecting economic information and analyzing economic phenomenon.

 

4.      Main Courses

Introduction to Modern Chinese, Chinese Phonetics, Chinese Lexis, Modern Chinese Grammar, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Historic Chinese Literature, Business Chinese, Introduction to Translation, Business Translation

 

5.      Experienced Teachers

There are more than 20 teachers with doctoral degrees in the Chinese language major, including 4 professors and 12 associate professors.

 

6.  Cultivation Method

1)  Lectures, interactive communication simulation, after class question and answer sessions

2)  Students will read references materials, write after-reading report or thesis essays

3)  Students will attend social activities and the International Cultural Day, organized by the school (interacting and performing in Chinese).

4)  Students will finish their graduate thesis writing under the guidance of their professors.

Applicants who have finished 300 Chinese class hours and with New HSK grade 4 certified may be enrolled as a sophomore.

Master’s Program with a Major in Finance

(English-taught)

The Finance School of SUFE has a high-level faculty and cultivates undergraduate students, master degree students and PhD candidates. In 1996 and 2001, finance subjects were selected as key subjects by the Education Committee of Shanghai Government. Finance subjects at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economy have a good reputation and a great influence in the academic research field.

The Master’s degree program with a major in Finance is open to international students from 2006. Except for the language courses, all the other courses in the program are taught in English. The thesis and thesis defense are also conducted in English.

 

1.       Courses

Chinese Economic Issues, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics for Economics, Money and Banking, International Finance Management, Econometrics, Corporate Finance, Fixed Income Securities, Investment, Financial Engineering, Chinese Language, Chinese Culture and so on. 3.      Application period:

Application is accepted all year round. The deadline for the Fall Semester of 2012 is 20th of May 2012. Application after the deadline will be arranged into enrollment for next year. Applicants can submit the application materials by post, email, through our online application system (http://ao.sufe.edu.cn), or directly to our office. (date is determined by the local mail postmark)

 

4.       Qualifications

18-45 years’ old, university graduates with bachelor’s degree, in good physical health, foreign citizenship.

Immigrants to other countries from the Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan applying to study at SUFE as international students should satisfy the additional requirements of National Ministry of Education.

(1)  Application Form for Enrollment (A1).(with photos)

(2)  One photocopy of your valid ordinary passport.

(3)  Diploma and degree. (original or notarized version, in notarized Chinese or English translation). For those who are about to graduate, a certification of expected graduation is also acceptable.

(4)  The original Bachelor or Master academic record (or notarized copy) in English or Chinese.

(5)  English language ability certification, above 550 (paper based) and 80 (computer based) in TOFEL or 6.5 in IELTS.

(6)  Personal statement, written in English, which includes study and work experiences, research results and a study plan.

(7)  Recommendation letters in Chinese or English from two professors or associate professors.

(8)  Application fee: 1660 RMB (or the proof/invoice of remittance)

ICES-SUFE and Europe-China Strategic Alliance Announce Partnership

ICES-SUFE and the Europe-China Strategic Alliance are pleased to announce a first of its kind summer experience for European students. The 2012 Business in China Summer Programme, operated by the Europe-China Strategic Alliance, will combine SUFE academic credit with an internship in Shanghai. It will be the first programme in China that connects an internship experience with academic credit for European students.
